About the New Rochelle, New York Area Overview The area known as New Rochelle was first established by the Siwanoys who created their community on the southern end of Davenport Neck -- the area known as Titus Mill farm. The Huguenots followed the Siwanoys in 1688 and establishied settlements along the Sound naming the area after the French port of La Rochelle. The Hugenots used the water routes into New York City to transport their locally grown produce by sloop. In later years a steamboat provided daily service from New Rochelle to the City. For almost 300 years, New Rochelle's waterfront has continued to play an important role in the life of the community. Similar to Larchmont and Mamaroneck, New Rochelle became a playground of sorts for New Yorkers during the summer months which led to the creation of an amusement park, Glen Island Casino, theatres, restaurants and shops. As roads and rail infrastructure improved, many New Yorkers soon made the city their permanent home. The City of New Rochelle covers 10.7 square miles which includes 270 acres of public parks. New Rochelle has close to 73,000 residents and known to many as "the Queen City of the Sound." There are also three colleges in New Rochelle: Iona College, College of New Rochelle and Monroe College. New Rochelle is currently undergoing a major renaissance similar to what has occurred in White Plains over the last few years. There are now major real estate developments underway downtown to create urban-style lofts and modern condominiums. Even Donald Trump, in conjunction with Cappelli Enterprises, has built a luxury high rise condominium with retail space adjacent to the multiplex/IMAX theater and the new train station. As part of this urban development, New Rochelle has made a serious effort to create employment opportunities as well through the New Rochelle Development Employment Initiative (NRDEI). The NRDEI will recruit and train unemployed and under employed workers in the city for pre-apprenticeships within the building and construction trades. The program is also intended to help place individuals who may not be suited for the building and construction trades in training programs for jobs in retail and elsewhere in the private sector. The major redevelopment, large varied housing inventory and wide cultural diversity has made New Rochelle a unique cosmopolitan city with much to offer. Neighborhoods In downtown New Rochelle, one will find many shops and stores and the city hub, New Roc City, which has an indoor miniature golf course, indoor race track, multiplex/IMAX theatre and new train station and parking facility. There are also many new loft and condominiums projects underway which will greatly increase the housing inventory downtown. Donald Trump, for example, is currently building a luxury residential building in New Roc City. In the western section of the city headed towards Pelham, there are more apartment buildings, multi-families and smaller homes as well as a Costco and Home Depot. Heading to the northern section of New Rochelle along North Avenue, the housing inventory is composed of apartment buildings, multi-families and smaller homes. The Sound Shore Medical Center and New Rochelle City Hall are also located in this area. Further on North Street, the parcels of land get larger as do the homes and one will find large Tudors, Victorians and Colonials. Iona College and the Wykagl Country Club are in this section as well. Southern New Rochelle below Main Street is home to the College of New Rochelle and a variety of yacht clubs and a full service marina. Davenport Park and Glen Island Park are also here and offer great views and access to Long Island Sound. The south eastern section bordering Larchmont is known as Premium Point and possesses large stately Tudor and Colonial homes with views of Echo Bay. Click here for more information on New Rochelle. Working With An Agent >Tell Your Agent
Good communication will enable you to get the best service from the real estate agent who is helping you to buy or sell a home. If you have any concerns, make them known not just to your spouse, your mother and your co-workers, but to the person who can do something about it--your agent!
Real estate sales are extremely complex transactions which involve negotiating large sums of money and turning over the largest single asset most individuals will ever own. Since the possibilities for misunderstandings are great, professional real estate agents work hard to ensure that the transaction will go smoothly. This requires clear communication between the buyers and the sellers and other agents.
Most of the breakdowns in real estate transactions result from vague or inadequate communication prior to the signing of the contract. Express any concerns that you may have and ask about anything you don't understand--the only foolish question is the one that isn't asked!
